Deep Listening

In the summer of 2013, Maryam Mobini and I collaborated on a sound installation as part of the Deep Listening Conference organized by the late Pauline Oliveros. Our installation comprised of granular samples, an algorithm that mimicked genetic sequencing, tactile speakers, and found objects.

As the participant approached the installation, the algorithm would randomly create a new sequence from the granular samples. The audio was played back through tactile speakers mounted on the surface of a metal object. The sound was made audible through the resonance of the metallic object.
